What to expect

In Person learning

This class is offered in-person to give the learner the opportunity to practice with the instructors guidance.

Small groups

Classes are usually kept at no more than 20 students to allow for personal attention to everybody’s needs.
In the hands on part of the class groups of no more than 4 students per horse work together.

Hands on practice

In this class we have a demonstration by the instructor and a practical part where participants practice the proper first aid response for several scenarios.

comprehensive theory session

The theoretical part of the class is held classroom style.
Questions are not only welcome, but encouraged!

manual and certification

All participants receive first aid manual with everything they learn in the class.
The certificate is valid for 3 years.

Follow up

After the class each student receives a follow up email with helpful information, and printables.
I also offer bi-annual virtual Q&A’s via Microsoft Teams.

  • Prevention

  • Conditioning for treatment

  • Learning YOUR equine’s “normal” to identify problems earlier and easier

  • Signs of pain

  • Assessment of emergency situations and efficient communication with your vet

  • Vitals & Weight measurements

  • Wound assessment and response including joint and eye injuries, punctures,…

  • Choke

  • Colic

  • Ulcers

  • Heaves

  • Heat related issues:

    • collapse

    • thumps & tie up

    • dehydration

    • heat stroke

  • Shock

  • Burns

  • Bites & Stings

  • Poisoning

  • Hoof troubles:

    • laminitis & founder

    • abscess

    • white line disease

    • thrush

  • Emergency response for a cast horse

  • First Aid Kit contents

Practice

  • Taking vital signs correctly

  • Taking weight measurements

  • Pain assessment and relief

  • Stretching for health and pain reduction

  • Wound bandaging (multiple locations on the horse)

  • Hoof boots (half & full)

  • Eye protection

  • Tipps & Tricks for slippery bandages

All scenarios can be repeated multiple times if desired.
